This week the focus is the Primary Election here in Massachusetts. While Election Day is Tuesday, September 1, vote by mail and early voting have been ongoing throughout August. In a recent survey we conducted, more than 70% of Mass Retirees members indicated that they intended to vote by mail.

If you have not yet voted, PLEASE take the time on Tuesday to vote. I can’t stress strongly enough how important it is to help elect leaders who not only support public retirees, but will also make you a personal priority.

The endorsements contained in the September edition of The Voice are for those elected officials facing serious Democratic Primary Election challengers or are candidates running for an open seat. Each endorsed candidate is someone we have worked closely with in the past, openly supports the issues directly impacting public retirement, and has made it a point to prioritize retirees.

We do plan to publicize a bi-partisan list of endorsed candidates leading into November’s General Election. For now, we are strictly focused on the Primary Election.

Of all of the candidates we have endorsed in the Primary, no one is more important to Mass Retirees than US Congressman Richard Neal. Representing the Massachusetts 1st Congressional District, Congressman Neal faces a heated Democratic Primary challenge that has grown increasingly tight.

No single elected official is more important to resolving the issues of the Social Security WEP and GPO laws than Richie Neal. As Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, he has placed WEP reform at the forefront of his personal priorities. And having worked with Richie on these issues for many years, I have witnessed his commitment to solving these problems for retirees. Losing his voice and leadership in Congress would be a major setback.

If you live in Western Mass. or have friends or family voting in the 1st Congressional District, please urge them to vote to reelect Richie Neal to Congress.

Regardless of where you live it is important to take the time to vote.

For those who have already voted by mail and returned your ballot, you can confirm it was received by our local election office by clicking here. If you have not yet returned your ballot, please deliver it by hand to your local city or town hall. All ballots MUST be received by local election officials no later than 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1st.
