GIC Open Enrollment Ends Today, May 1st

MAY 1, 2019: The month’s long open enrollment for the state Group Insurance Commission’s (GIC) health and dental insurance plans ends Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

Open enrollment provides an annual opportunity for the 430,000 state and municipal retirees and employees enrolled in the GIC’s insurance plans to make changes to their coverage, including switching insurance carriers. Coverage for FY20 begins on July 1, 2019.

For those members not wishing to make coverage changes, no action is required. You will remain within the same plan in which you are now enrolled.

For those retirees and employees insured in municipal plans, most cities and towns hold open enrollment periods in the spring. Local enrollees should be notified by the community from which you retired.

“If you are enrolled in the GIC and happy with your insurance, then there is nothing you need to do. However, if you do want to make a change today is the last opportunity you have until next year. Retirees with specific questions should contact the GIC directly at 617-727-2310,” explains Mass Retirees Insurance Coordinator Cheryl Stillman.
