June 16, 2021- Late last evening, the House and Senate passed a bill that would extend several COVID-19 policy measures that expired when the Governor’s state of emergency was lifted on June 15th. The House passed their version mid-morning and in an unusual move the two versions were sent to conference committee and hammered out the same day. The Senate version included language that would extend the Post Retirement Work Waiver until December 15th, 2021.

The House passed their version mid-morning and in an unusual move the two versions were sent to conference committee and hammered out the same day. The Senate version included language that would extend the Post Retirement Work Waiver until December 15th, 2021. However, the House version did not include the language and therefore was included as part of the conference committee process.
When the conference committee report emerged at 8 p.m. in the Senate, only the policy measures that were included in both versions were included in the new legislation. Policies, including the waiver extension, that were included in only one of the versions remained in conference committee, to be dealt with in the near future.
As of Tuesday, June 15, 2021, retirees who are working in the public sector are now subject to the post retirement work restrictions. This means that that the restriction of 960 hours and earnings restriction of the difference between a retiree’s public pension benefit and the annual salary their former job currently pays, plus an additional $15,000 will be in effect from June 15, 2021 until December 31, 2021.
We will continue to work with legislative leadership and the conference committee members to seek a timely resolution to the waiver extension language as they address the remaining policies before the conference committee.
