Sean Kelly with Mass Retirees President Frank Valeri

Uniquely Qualified to Represent All City of Boston Retirees & Employees

Mass Retirees is proud to announce the endorsement of Sean Kelly in the Special Election now underway for the Boston Retirement Board. Sean is 5th on the ballot that is being mailed to all City of Boston retirees and employees this week.

The Association has endorsed Sean Kelly, because we believe that he is the most qualified and has the experience required to represent all City of Boston retirees and employees as one of your five retirement board members. Not only has Sean previously represented your interests as a retirement board member, but after having first been elected in 2008, he is credited with helping the Boston Retirement System to recover from the Great Recession.

As Board Chairman from 2010-2014, Sean Kelly helped lead the way for a $2,000 increase in the COLA base. During this time, he worked with former Mayors Menino and Walsh to ensure that Boston’s requirement to fully fund the Retirement System was met – actions that have led to Boston now being amongst the best funded cities in the country.

With Boston quickly nearing 100% funded status, now is the time to elect representatives to the Retirement Board who will fight to make sure that the success of the system is shared with retirees by further improvements to the COLA. As a 32-year member of the Boston Fire Department, Treasurer of Local 718, and now a District Chief in South Boston, Sean has spent his adult life fighting for and protecting all the people of Boston.

Sean Kelly is a Dorchester native and comes from a long line of dedicated public servants. As General President of the International Association of Fire Fighters, his brother Ed played a central and critical role in the passage of the Social Security Fairness Act.

Due to his experience and expertise, we believe Sean Kelly to be the best candidate to represent you as an elected member of the Boston Retirement Board. Sean’s previous service as a member of the Board, during difficult times, makes him uniquely qualified.

Therefore, we respectfully ask that when City of Boston retirees and employees vote in the Special Retirement Board Election, you give every consideration to vote to elect Sean F. Kelly. Remember, when you vote, Sean is 5th on your ballot. The last day to vote is April 11, 2025.

Most sincerely,

Frank Valeri                                                                                                               Shawn Duhamel
