Huge Member Turnout

Despite winter’s chill, members turned out in huge numbers at the Mass Retirees meetings in Auburn, Tewksbury and Florian Hall, the home of Boston Fire Fighters Local 718. While the common theme at these meetings was the repeal of Social Security’s Windfall and Offset laws, members heard the latest news from Association officials on several important retirement issues, including our 2025 – 2026 Legislative Program (see pages 6 & 7 and 12 & 13), the Special COLA Commission and the GIC.

Special guests also spoke with State Senator Mike Moore stopping by our Auburn meeting. In Tewksbury Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA Third District) celebrated the WEP/GPO repeal with members, while at Florian Hall a special video highlighting repeal efforts accompanied remarks by Ed Kelly, General President of the IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters).

During the Florian Hall meeting, Mass Retirees announced its endorsement of Firefighter Sean Kelly, who also serves as Local 718 Treasurer, in the current election for the vacant seat on the Boston Retirement Board. Good luck Sean.

Ed Note: Sean Kelly appears as #5 on the ballot that must be received in the retirement board office by 5:00pm, April 11 (Friday). We encourage our members to vote.
